DAVE ADAMS – ANIMATION FOR OPERATION
Dave will discuss the building of animated details such as water tank spots, station train order signals, switch stands, etc. and how he uses them to support operations on his On3 “Durlin Branch” railroad.
JON ADDISON – REALISTIC WATERFALLS & RAPIDS
Jon will show the materials he uses and explain his techniques for building “moving” water scenes on his well known “Silverton Central” modular Sn3 layout.
TOM BEATON – TREES, STUMPS & RELATED ITEMS
Tom’s forest scenes from his “Broak & Kantifordit” On3 railroad have been featured in many model magazines over the years. Tom will explain how he makes the materials he uses and how he uses them.
PAUL BECKSTROM – SPEEDERS, CRUMMIES & HOODLUM WAGONS
Paul, an On3 logging modeler and professional forester, will show a variety of prototype railcars used by the many logging railroads and explain their varied uses in the forests.
JOEL BRAGDON – BRAGDON ENTERPRISES

Joel, a professional scenery builder, will show the materials he uses for his unique “Geodesic Foam Scenery”, and how to use them, in a 2 hour clinic. He will also present a clinic on mold making and one on weathering.
DAVE BROWN – ADDING ELECTRICAL PICKUPS TO LOCOMOTIVES
Dave has been rebuilding locomotives in all scales for many years and he will explain the biggest culprit in bad running locomotives – poor electrical pickup – and how to cure the problem.
DAVE CLUNE – CYANIDE MILLING PROCESS
Dave will explain the cyanide milling process used in the mining industry and show how he built his award winning O scale cyanide mill for his On3 “Cascade County Narrow Gauge” railroad.
GERRY CORNWELL – WOOD 101
Gerry, co-owner of Mt. Albert Scale Lumber Co., will review the process of manufacturing scale wood products and share some techniques for weathering and finishing scale lumber.
RICHARD DORMAN – THE CHILI LINE

Dick, HOn3 modeler and prolific author, will show his recently rediscovered color slides of the long gone D&RGW “Chili Line” that ran from Antonito to Santa Fe. (This clinic will be presented one time only!)
BILL FLEISHER – AROUND THE NARROW GAUGE CIRCLE TODAY
Bill, through a series of slides, will show the famous Colorado trip “Around The Narrow Gauge Circle” as it exists today illustrating the many landmark features that still exist.
CHARLIE GETZ – SIGNS, DETAILS & STRANGE PLACES TO STOP
Charlie, known to all for his infamous “roast” at the NNGC’s, will get a little more serious here and describe all those little extra aftermarket details, and tell you his secret places where you can get them.
DAVE GRANDT – WHERE DID ALL THE TANK CARS GO?
Dave, long time On3 modeler, maker of plastic NG kits and president of Grandt Line Products, will show and discuss narrow gauge tank cars, what they hauled, how they were moved and what businesses they frequented.
JOHNNY GRAYBEAL – NORTH CAROLINA NG

Johnny will discus these relatively obscure and rarely modeled narrow gauge lines including the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina, the Linville River, the Lawndale and others, as well as the modeling possibilities of these lines. (Two different one time only clinics.)
STEVE HARRIS – MODELING WITH PHOTOSHOP
Steve will show and discuss all the tricks of Photoshop – resizing, reshaping and recoloring of images, making logos, and those he uses in his modeling of the RGS including making signs, awnings and curtains.
BOB HAYDEN – A MODELING SABBATICAL IN On30 – MAINE 2 FOOT STYLE
A long time HOn30 modeler, Bob will reveal what he has done by modifying readily available plastic On30 models to give them that Maine 2 foot flavor – it’s a kitbasher’s paradise.
RANDY HEES – WESTERN NARROW GAUGE CAR DESIGN
Randy, curator for the historic collection of rolling stock of the Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR), will discuss far western rolling stock, its design and details, what it looked like and why it was built that way.
DARRYL HUFFMAN – EASY BACKDROP PAINTING
Although you will have to practice the techniques for yourself, Darryl will show the few brushes and acrylic paints needed, and the easy techniques to achieve distance in a realistic backdrop.
GIL HULIN – On30 MODELING IN THE NORTHWEST
Gil will discuss the state of On30 modeling with an emphasis on modules and the work being done in the Northwest area of the United States.
MERV JOHNSON – WHAT YOU”VE ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK ABOUT STEAM DONKEYS & THEIR RIGGING

Merv will show how steam donkeys were rigged and used for logging, illustrated by his authentic 1 ½ inch scale live steam models. This clinic will be presented one time only!
JOHN KALIN & PETE SMITH – TRESTLE CONSTRUCTION METHODS
Sn3 modelers John and Pete will discuss construction tips on building trestle bents, decks and bracing, and scenery considerations for trestle locations.
DICK KILDAY – ACRYLIC PAINT WEATHERING
Dick will discuss using inexpensive water based paints to produce a variety of weathering effects on rolling stock, vehicles and figures.
TOM KNAPP – MODELING IN Nn3

A long time Nn3 modeler, Tom will present 2 clinics – the first will review the Nn3 hobby today, and the second will discuss specifically modeling the Pacific Coast Railway in Nn3.
KEN LARSON – TREES FOR A WESTSIDE LUMBER CO. LAYOUT
Ken will show how he has built California Black Oaks, Ponderosa and Sugar Pines, and Incense Cedar trees – using natural fiber rope and Douglas Fir seedlings - for his On3 Westside Lumber Company layout.
CHUCK LIND – BUILDING CARTER BROTHERS LOG CARS
Chuck will briefly discuss the Carter Bros. and their car building operations, then show how he has been building a fleet of Westside Lumber logging flat cars in On3 using fixtures to speed production.
BRUCE MACGREGOR – THE CARTER BROTHERS CAR BUILDERS
Bruce, historian and author of many books on the South Pacific Coast and California narrow gauge, will present an overview of the Carter Brothers, their car building operations, and their relationship to the other early narrow gauge car builders.
GREG MAXWELL – CENTRAL NEVADA NARROW GAUGE
Greg will provide a look at the Central Nevada NG lines – the common carrier Eureka & Palisade/Eureka Nevada Ry, the Nevada Central RR, the Nevada Shortline, and the ancillary Austin City and the Ruby Hill RR’s.
PATRICIA MAXWELL – CREATING A REALISTIC WESTERN SCALE FOREST
Patricia builds all the forests on her and her husband Burton’s HO scale Westside Lumber Company layout. She will discuss her methods for perspective, placing trees of varied types, ground cover, details and more.
TIM MCCARTNEY – WEST SIDE DETAILS
A Westside Lumber On3 modeler and prototype historian, Tim will talk about all the often overlooked details surrounding the mill and narrow gauge railroad from a modeler’s perspective.
JOHN MCKENZIE – MAKING BOTTLE BRUSH TREES – ANOTHER LOOK
John, builder of the Sn3 “McKenzie Brothers Lumber Co.” modular layout along with his brother, will show and demonstrate how to build realistic conifer, Aspen and other deciduous trees using his self developed “tree machine”.
TOM MILLER – LARGE MODEL RAILROADS

Tom, builder of the featured Fn3 and 1 ½” scale model railroads, and his 2 ½ “ live steam K36 and rolling stock, will host a question and answer session where he will discuss all the trials and tribulations of planning and building large model railroad projects. BOONE MORRISON – HOW A SMALL SAWMILL WORKS
With video clips taken at the Sturgeons mill, Boone will follow the logging operations of a small setup from the woods through the final milling.
RUSS REINBERG – MODELING WITH PAPER
Russ, editor and publisher of “The Modelers’ Annual”, will show how to design and build contest quality models using paper, a printer and a hobby knife.
BILL ROY – HORSES, TACK AND WAGONS
Bill has been studying horses and wagons as they were used around railroads in the early 20th Century. He will share his discovered information with an emphasis on the many wagon designs and their uses.
JIM SABOL – BRIDGE ENGINEERING
What holds a bridge up? Jim will discuss the engineering principles and show how they apply to enable a bridge to stay up and carry a load.
BILL SCHAUMBURG – FIVE STRANDS OF NG HISTORY – THE NCNG RR
Bill, editor of the Railroad Model Craftsman and On3 modeler, will present the history of his longtime love, the Nevada County Narrow Gauge, from its beginnings to the present day.
SOUNDTRAXX – BIG SOUND FROM LITTLE TRAINS
A variety of presenters from SoundTraxx including Jerrette Ireland and Jeff Johnson will present two clinics – a basic and an advanced – covering general sound theory concepts, decoder installation and programming, aimed at showing how to get the full benefit from DCC and the SoundTraxx products.
DAVID STEER – ASSEMBLING NG RESIN CAR KITS
David will cover all the intricacies of preparing, assembling, detailing and painting narrow gauge resin car kits.
JOHN STUTZ – TIMBER SNOW SHEDS
John will show drawings and photographs illustrating the development of timber snow sheds, with an emphasis on the Colorado and the White Pass narrow gauges.
MIKE BARRETT – MODELING TIMBER TRESTLES
Methods of building trestle bents and completed trestles are presented. Both pile and frame trestles are addressed. The techniques presented are appropriate for all scales in both standard and narrow gauge. Different prototypes are discussed, including Burlington-Northern, Rio Grande Southern, Denver and Rio Grande Western, and Alamogordo & Sacramento Mtns. Photographs (models and prototypes) and drawings are presented. Easy ways to add a trestle to a plywood layout, or build a trestle on a bench, are described.
